Dora Bánhegyi is a Hungarian conceptual painter whose work reimagines self-portraiture through solitude, presence, and the Venus Effect. Using her phone as a contemporary mirror, she paints herself as both observer and observed, exploring the shifting boundaries between intimacy and the gaze. Working in oil, acrylic, and watercolor, she captures unconstructed, instinctive moments that reveal the fluidity of selfhood. Her work has been shown online and at art fairs across Europe.

Biography

Artist Statement

My paintings begin in solitude, where I use self-photography to enter a suspended moment of introspection. I paint the body as a site of perception and transformation, capturing “found compositions” that arise without staging or control. The Venus Effect shapes my work: looking inward becomes an act of looking outward, collapsing the distance between subject and viewer. Through this process, I create intimate images that invite others into the quiet space where the self becomes both mirror and muse.
